![]() Oh, Wendy Peffercorn! My darling lover girl!” Your tongue was hanging out of your head and you was swooning. Yeah-yeah: “Ah, Squints was pervin’ a dish.” That delays their arrival at the sandlot, where the others are waiting impatiently.īenny: “Where have you guys been? We’ve been waiting here forever already.” The setup: Squints and Yeah-Yeah are leaving the store, where they’ve just bought the new baseball for the day, when Wendy Peffercorn walks down the sidewalk. Why it’s the best: Lots of other things were said, but “pee-drinking crapface” seems about perfect as an insult for boys of that age. Ham: “Count on it, pee-drinking crapface!” The setup: The baseball jerks with their bikes and manicured field come to the sandlot to challenge the kids to a baseball game. Some fishing hats have extended bills to provide shade while fishing, but this one looks ridiculous on Smalls. The biggest problem with the hat, though, is the comically long bill. Why it’s the best: While I’m generally opposed to throwing away fishing-related clothing - Smalls’ hat has a trout on it - I understand where Benny’s coming from. ![]() Benny suggests a T-shirt and jeans the next day, instead of a button-up shirt and shorts. The setup: It’s the end of Smalls’ first day on the sandlot. He didn’t have the patience to wait for Smalls to learn baseball, and he didn’t have the patience to wait for the lifeguard, either. The other kids aren’t exactly understanding. The setup: On Smalls’ first day at the sandlot, Benny has to take a lot of time helping the newbie with the basics of baseball. And this one, maybe more than any other moment in the movie, gives me flashbacks to when I was a kid and couldn’t wait to tell my folks about the great day I’d had. And you feel it, right? Tom Guiry, the kid actor who plays Smalls, does an amazing job the entire movie of making you feel every one of the emotions the character Smalls is experiencing. He’s just so excited and cannot wait to tell his mom. Smalls, in a new town and without any friends as of that morning, sprints into the house. And to top it off, Benny lets him keep his old glove AND gives him a hat. The setup: Smalls gets home from his first full day playing baseball on the sandlot. Why 19? Why not? I watched the movie, wrote down my favorites and landed on 19. So without further delay, here are the top 19 quotes from "The Sandlot." Well, one delay.
